Puglia is a wonderful tourist destination, known for its villages, the beautiful coast, the variety of landscapes, the tasty food.
Puglia is also famous for its temperate climate in spring and autumn, ideal periods for bike enthusiasts, with water temperatures that allow for a relaxing swim after a “ride on the bike”.
Here are some ideas for organizing your cycling holidays in Italy.
Among the most beautiful destinations to visit by bike in Puglia for nature, history and landscapes we mention:
– Bicycle Vacation in Italy, Gargano National Park
The Gargano National Park is considered the green lung of Puglia due to its biodiversity
A cycling holiday in the Gargano National Park will allow you to visit one of the greatest varieties of landscapes in Europe concentrated in a small space.
Suffice it to say that around 90 spontaneous species of orchids grow on the Gargano in spring, a record in the world.
Small coves overlooking the sea with crystal clear sea, mountains, plains, the two lakes of Lesina and Varano, the Umbra Forest (UNESCO site), enchanting towns full of history such as Vieste, Peschici and Monte Sant’Angelo (UNESCO site) and many others.
If you choose the Gargano for your cycling holiday in Puglia you will be able to count on itineraries of various levels, capable of satisfying the expectations of every type of cyclist.
It will also be possible to combine routes on asphalt roads with routes on white roads and/or paths.
The Gargano is a true paradise, suitable for those who love getting lost in uncontaminated nature.
The champions of the Giro d’Italia often compete on these super panoramic roads.
The Gargano was recently cited by the Guardian newspaper as “Greener breaks on Italy’s Gargano peninsula”. Discover more (click here).
One of the unique characteristics of the Gargano is due to the presence of the sea, mountains and the Umbra Forest, within a few km.
This incredible variety of landscapes will allow the use of the bike even on the hottest summer days.
In the Umbra Forest there are hundreds of kilometers of asphalt and/or path roads always in the shade, a stone’s throw from the sea.
Truly incredible, don’t you think?
Bicycle Vacation in Italy, Valle d’Itria
The Valle d’Itria is famous for its “enchanted” white villages.
A cycling holiday in this part of Puglia allows you to create numerous itineraries to visit these villages.
The most famous village in the Valle d’Itria is Alberobello, famous for its trulli.
These are ancient buildings, unique in the world, present in the historic center of Alberobello (UNESCO site) and in the countryside of the Valle d’Itria.
The characteristic of these typical houses is the limestone with roofs made of dry-laid slabs, without the use of cementitious materials.
